Huanghuacheng Great Wall camping
Camping on the Huanghuacheng great wall is a unique experience as it is one of the few places where you can pitch your tent on top of the restored Great Wall. To make the experience complete we start the hike on the wild Zuangdakou Great Wall.
The hike starts after a local lunch right next to the Zhuangdaokou Great Wall. It’s a 20 minute uphill hike trough the fields before we reach the Great Wall. There is no need to carry any camping gear here. We will pick up the gear towards the end of the hike, just before we climb the Huanghuacheng Great wall.
The trail we hike today is about 8 km long. During the first 5km on Zhuandaokou you’ll have to be a bit care full as this Great Wall is pretty broken down. The second part of the trail is on the nicely restored Huanghuachang Great Wall. Just before we make the final climb of the day we pick up the backpacks with the camping gear and dinner.
The hike to the top of Huanghuacheng Great Wall is no more than 2 km which makes this trip fit for everybody. All you have to do from is here is put up your tent, open a bottle of wine and enjoy the fantastic few of the Huanghuacheng Great Wall under the stars.
The whole Huanghuacheng Great wall is almost 11 kilometers long and joins with Mutianyu Great Wall in the east, and JuyongguanPass and Badaling in the west.
The Huanghuacheng Great Wall itself is quit unique as it doesn’t have any of the famous big stairs so hiking up the steeper parts of Huangchuacheng Great Wall can be a bit tricky. The Great Wall is very well restored and the patch nicely paved so you will not have to much trouble.
If you’re an early bird you can catch the sunrise, make your perfect picture and listen to birds while the country side starts to wake up.
After a croissant and a coffee we have a relax walk on the Great Wall and down the valley where our driver will be waiting for us.

In ancient times, when summer time Huanghuacheng area everywhere is yellow wild flowers (‘Yellow flower’ is ‘huanghua’ in Chinese). so people give village name Hunghuacheng, also why the Great wall here called Huanghuacheng Great Wall . now summer still come every year , but no more yellow flower
In the Ming Dynasty, the Emperor ordered a general named Cai Kai to build the Great wall here. But it took many years to accomplish the construction. So the emperor became very angry while at the same time some traitorous ministers scolded that Cai Kai had spent too much money in building it. As a result, Cai Kai was beheaded. Later, the emperor asked ministers to check the construction. They found that the it was strongly fortified. The emperor realized that he had treated Cai Kai unjustly. Then he ordered craftsman to carve “Jintang ” two Chinese characters on the Great wall .
