Great Wall Hiking

In Beijing Municipality, the Great Wall expands over 630km. Except for about 50km of the Great Wall developed for tourism at scenic spots like Badaling and Simatai, the majority of the wall is still left untouched, making it extraordinarily well-preserved. ChinaHiking will guide you to those most remote and long deserted parts of the Wild Great wall.

Qiangzilu Great wall hike

The Qianzilu Great Wall  most remarkable feature is the huge V shape it forms  as it follows the shear mountain cliffs.  The houses of Quanshui village, build of Great Wall bricks and rocks and the friendly villagers all add to the remarkable character of this hike.

A 30 minutes hike trough fields of  Quanshui River village brings us to  Qiangzilu Great wall.  Quanshui means spring water because  there used to  flow a  spring through the village.  Today a small spring still remains.  Beijing is a dry  area,  only few mountains around Beijing  still  contain water which makes this small  spring very precious.

Once on top of the Great Wall you ll see the impressive building style of this section.   Although some of the Beacon towers are well preserved, big parts of this Great Wall are in pretty bad shape.  Good shoes are essentials and you ll  have to walk carefully at certain places. At the highest point of this hike we can enjoy our lunch. We will prepare a sandwich and some coffee for you. You ll have plenty of time to relax and take pictures.

The last part of this hike goes down hill on the other side of the Great Wall  trough low bush so long trousers are recommended. The Qianzilu Great Wall is the border of the Beijiing and the Hebei province so we will end the hike in different province.  Once back in the valley  you’ ll see the old villagers play cards under the village trees next to their chestnut and apple fields. All they need form you is a smile before they will start sharing their life stories with you.
