According to scripture of a ruined tablet in Ming Dynasty, the village was built in Liao Dynasty People living in the village were an ethnic group with the family name Yang. The most prosperous period appeared at beginning of the Republic of China's Late Qing Dynasty. At that time, there were no more than 100 families.
Due to averting Anti-Japanese War, Yangjiayu village is one the best-preserved villages with ancient folk houses. Most of houses in the village have a courtyard with covered with blue brick. And most of these houses have more than hundreds of years of history.
I remember my last visit of this village very well. I knew the village had been purchased by a company for tourism development. All villagers shall be moved to Zhaitang Town. Some of courtyard has been pulled down and some doors and windows with carved patterns were also demolished. It hurt me. Who can protect them?
The development will result in no character, no soul and losing their original idea to protect this historical & cultural heritage. Lets go and it again before it is totally demolished.
