Detailed Itinerary

Chola Mountain, with an altitude of 6,168 meters, is part of the northern section of the Sharuli Mountain Chain in the southeastern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is located in Dege County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province. Chola Mountain is the closest accessible 6,000 meter peak mountain to Tibet while still entirely lying in Sichuan Province. Its surroundings, local people, and local culture feel entirely Tibetan.

In the local Tibetan language “Chola Mountain” means the mountain where the eagle cannot fly. Its spectacular scenery is second to none in all of China’s six-thousand-meter mountain peaks. In the mountains surrounding the area, there are more than 20 peaks of more than 5,000 meters.

The climb is very special because it has the real feel of a snow-capped technical mountain with an incredibly safe climbing route that can be climbed by beginners. The route calls for 3 entire days on the glacier traversing crevasses and climbing two major ice faces along the way. It’s climbing season is from July 1st to October 15th, with the best time to climb from mid July to the end of August. All in all, it is truly a one of kind mountain that provides an utmost physical challenge while still extremely safe. As well, its scenery is a mesmerizing combination of grassland, high elevation forest, rock, and glacier. A climb of Chola Mountain will not leave its climbers disappointed.
